Greetings! Except for basic tools, like bsdtar, zstd and Perl, BASS minimal installation for building packages required redo implementation, which by default was goredo. For deterministic package archives it also used detpax, also written on Go. You may freely use any other redo and use ordinary (non-deterministic) tar. But there are platforms where Go is missing. And its building from sources (since 1.4) is not trivial task on modern systems. That is why there was written an alternative tiny jimredo redo implementation on Jim Tcl. It does not make out-of-date decisions, but builds only missing targets, which is enough for building from the ground (goredo is still advisable for development use-cases). It is included in the BASS contrib/jimredo directory. Also detpax archiver was rewritten on pure C99, depending only on POSIX functions. It is also much faster and consumes much less memory. Older Go version is deprecated now. contrib/prepare-deps/{dl,do} script now takes the name of steps you want to perform. ".../dl base" will download only the distfiles required for base steps, for example. "do jimredo" will build only Jim Tcl and copy the jimredo to the local/bin path. "goredo" will build Go, goredo and meta4ra (just because Go is already present) as before. -- * Origin: Stargrave's homepage http://www.stargrave.org/
