It's true that Tor does a completely different thing, but John brought
up the raw performance envelope comparison, which is why I thought
Wireguard was worth a mention. And yes, OpenVPN has many slownesses
baked into the design. IIRC the Wireguard developers wrote a whitepaper
about it explaining why they needed to build Wireguard in the first
place.
